About London Veterinary Neurology

Neurological care, built around you and your pet.

London Veterinary Neurology was created to provide Diplomate-led neurological care that is local, coordinated and responsive, while offering enduring relationships with neurologists, access to urgent care and exceptional personal service at every stage.

We work alongside the veterinary practices, hospitals and other professionals you know and trust, helping you choose suitable facilities, clinicians and appointment times around your pet's needs and your circumstances. Whether you need one consultation, a complete course of investigation and treatment, ongoing care over many years or urgent assessment, LVN can provide that care and help you decide how best to proceed. There is no assumed commitment to tests, surgery or a particular hospital.

We believe care should be organised around your pet and the people who care for them, not the other way round.

Our founding purposes

Why we created LVN

Four purposes shaped the service. Each matters to the patients and people we hope to help.

01

Close to home, connected to your vet

Neurological care should be available within the community where pets already receive care. We work alongside local veterinary practices and other professionals involved in a patient's care, so familiar relationships can continue while neurological expertise is brought in when needed.

We consider where and when it is most useful to see your pet, from a local consultation to a weekend appointment, imaging or treatment at a suitable hospital. A consultation is worthwhile in its own right. Further investigations and expenditure are discussed one step at a time, according to what the patient needs and the owner wishes to pursue.

02

A personal neurological relationship

Some owners want their pet to have a neurologist who knows them, remembers their history and remains involved as needs change. That relationship may begin with a single appointment and continue through investigations, treatment, recovery and follow-up over many years.

LVN offers this personal model of private veterinary care alongside comprehensive investigation and treatment. Owners can discuss their choice of clinician, hospital, appointment timing and costs. High clinical standards, individual attention and durable relationships matter whether the next step is observation or major surgery.

03

Urgent care when it matters

Neurological care cannot always wait for a routine weekday appointment. LVN offers urgent and emergency neurological assessments and can coordinate imaging, hospitalisation and surgery through its network of hospitals and experienced clinicians, including evenings and weekends when needed.

We also recognise that urgency is not always purely medical. An owner's circumstances may make an earlier appointment important, even when a patient is clinically stable. We try to accommodate both. Availability is confirmed when arrangements are made; if immediate attendance is not possible, patients needing emergency treatment should attend a suitable local emergency veterinary service.

04

Exceptional service, from first contact

We want people to enjoy dealing with LVN. Owners and referring vets should find us warm, knowledgeable, responsive and willing to help. When you contact LVN, we want you to feel that someone is listening, understands what you need and is genuinely willing to help.

Our aim is the attentiveness of excellent hospitality, supported by outstanding clinical care. We embrace useful new technology to improve efficiency, communication, record-keeping and clinical standards, but we use it to help our team provide a more personal service, not to replace human contact. Clinical advice remains part of an appropriate consultation or established care relationship.

What holds the network together

Continuity runs through every stage of care.

A network of clinicians and hospitals can offer more choice and greater flexibility, but only if responsibility remains clear. LVN maintains comprehensive clinical records, documents the current decisions and agreed contingency arrangements and keeps the owner, neurological clinician and local veterinary team informed as a patient's needs change.

Care does not follow a fixed plan. The responsible clinician reviews findings, updates recommendations, oversees agreed neurological treatment and arranges follow-up as the patient progresses. The hospital providing anaesthesia, nursing and inpatient care retains responsibility for those services.

We use technology to keep clinical records connected, share information promptly and ensure that important decisions and follow-up arrangements are not lost as care moves between clinicians and facilities. Clinical audit and published outcomes form part of that accountability. The location of care may change, but the patient should not lose a familiar point of contact or clear clinical responsibility.

Founded through experience

A model shaped by different ways of delivering care.

LVN was established by John Parker, DipECVN, a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology, after working in academic institutions, independent referral hospitals, corporate-owned referral hospitals and peripatetic local practice.

Those settings taught him the value of advanced facilities, multidisciplinary teams, familiar local veterinary relationships and sustained clinical involvement. He founded LVN to combine those strengths in a service organised around patients and owners, offering local collaboration, enduring clinical relationships and access to wider resources when needed.

As LVN grows, these founding principles will guide every member of the team: excellent neurological care, collaboration with local veterinary practices, enduring clinical relationships, responsiveness and exceptional personal service.

Owners and veterinary practices are welcome to contact LVN directly to arrange an appropriate consultation. A referral letter is not a prerequisite to making an enquiry.
