About LVN

London Veterinary Neurology (LVN) is an independent, Diplomate-led referral and second-opinion service. It was created to provide experienced, stable and accountable care for patients with neurological conditions in a fast-changing and fragmented veterinary landscape.

Neurological disease requires complex clinical decision-making and often prolonged periods of care. Diagnosis, treatment and recovery depend on experienced interpretation of evolving information; consistent clinical judgement over time is essential. In London, patients may be managed across multiple clinicians, departments or hospitals and this can make responsibility unclear and patient care feel inconsistent for both clients and referring veterinarians.

Two main referral pathways are currently established: large multi-clinician centres, often located outside the City and local, peripatetic services. LVN was created to bridge the gap between these two choices.

The LVN service is built around a simple principle: a single experienced Diplomate remains responsible for patient assessment, investigation, treatment and follow-up across multiple sites. This allows care to remain local and continuous and ensures that responsibility for outcomes is clear and consistent throughout the patient’s journey.

LVN is not a hospital and it does not replace existing referral infrastructure. It operates as a consultant-led clinical service embedded within established first-opinion practices and independent hospitals. This allows patients to benefit from high-quality local facilities including imaging, anaesthesia, hospitalisation and nursing care while maintaining senior oversight, treatment and continuity of clinical judgement.

All patients are under the care of Dr John Parker DipECVN. He performs consultation, interprets diagnostic findings, advises on management and performs surgery where appropriate.

About John

John has worked across a wide range of veterinary referral hospitals in the UK, both as an independent consultant and in senior clinical leadership roles. Exposure to different practice models has informed his views on responsibility, continuity of care and the importance of clear clinical ownership in referral medicine.

John’s clinical practice is characterised by careful assessment, methodical investigation and attention to detail. There is an emphasis on the fundamental principles of localisation, mechanism and consequence, rather than diagnostic labelling alone. He established London Veterinary Neurology in 2025 to provide a model of care that prioritises continuity, experienced clinical involvement and clear responsibility for outcomes.

John holds the European Diploma in Veterinary Neurology (DipECVN).

John has practised as a veterinary neurologist for almost 20 years. He trained as a veterinary surgeon at the University of Bristol before undertaking eight years of postgraduate training at the University of Cambridge in clinical neurology and neuroscience.

During this period, John combined specialist clinical training with in-depth doctoral-level research in neuroscience, developing a deep understanding of experimental design, data analysis and the ethical limits of translational research. This experience strongly shaped his approach to diagnosis and clinical decision-making, particularly in complex neurological disease.
